Fletcher, Campbell on “Hot” Win Streaks

            Brooksville, FL – It wasn’t just the temperature that was hot yesterday (Tues., June 7) as Ed Fletcher won his sixth straight and Terry Campbell won his fourth  straight at the Pine Barrens at World Woods course in the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida tournament.  

            Ed Fletcher shot a 74 to take the “Championship Flight,” and Campbell shot an 88 to take the “C Flight” as the thermometer registered well over ninety.

            In the “A Flight,” new member and first time competitor Dave Smith shot a 78 to win and in the “B Flight” Jerry Felty shot a 76 to take first.

            Rounding out the “A Flight,” Tom Grant scored an 80 to come in second and Larry Barousse placed third with an 81, after a score card playoff with Steve Norell.

            George Danforth placed second in the “C Flight” with a 96.

            Campbell lives in Brooksville, FL, Grant lives in Oviedo, FL, Smith lives in Ocala, FL, Barousse is from Mt. Dora, FL, Norell is from

Campbell Wins (Again) in Sudden Death; Fletcher’s Hat-trick Sub-Par Wins

            Brooksville, FL – It was the second sudden death playoff in a row for Terry Campbell and Mike Malloch as they went head-to-head for the win at Southern Woods Golf Club after matching 89’s in the “C Flight” at the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida tournament Tuesday (May 31).   After one hole, Campbell emerged with his fourth victory in Tour play.

            Ed Fletcher won for the third time in a row with a 2-under 70 to take the “Championship Flight.”

            The warm and breezy playing conditions welcomed the players in this make-up tournament that was rained-, thundered- and lighteninged out earlier in the season. Though it was hot, players agreed it was better than worrying about lightening bolts.

            Kelly Minton placed third in the “C Flight” with a 92, after a score card playoff with John Tayman.  Tom Gallagher finished second in the “Championship Flight” with a 75.

            In the “A Flight,” Tom Grant won with a 77, which included three birdies.  Larry Barousse placed second with a 79 and new Tour member and first-time tournament competitor Quay Burket placed third with an 83.

            In the “B Flight,” Jerry Smith won with an 80, and Dave Raybin placed second with an 86.

            The Tour also welcomed first-time competitor and new member Bob Coleman, who lives in The Villages, FL.

            Campbell lives in Brooksville, FL, and Smith lives in Spring Hill, FL, Grant lives in Oviedo, FL, Minton lives in Masaryktown, FL,  Burket is from Altamonte Springs, FL, Tayman is from Deltona, FL, Barousse is from Mt. Campbell Wins in Sudden Death; Fletcher Wins Back-to-Back

            Lake Mary, FL – Terry Campbell and Mike Malloch went head-to-head in a sudden death playoff at Timacuan Golf Club after matching 94’s in the “C Flight” at the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida tournament Wednesday (May 18).   Campbell emerged the victor after one hole.

            This was Malloch’s first brush with victory and it was Campbell’s second win on Tour, winning previously at Heathrow Golf and Country Club.

            Ed Fletcher won for the second time in a row with a 75 to take the “Championship Flight”

            The course was in great shape with the greens putting true.  Blue skies and sunshine helped make the conditions about as perfect as it gets for golf, even though the wind picked up a bit in the early afternoon.

            In the “A Flight,” Ed Paterniti won with a 76.  Tom Grant’s 78 and a birdie on the number one handicap hole earned him second place in the “A Flight” after winning the score card playoff with Robbie Robinson

            In the “B Flight,” Jerry Felty won with an 82, and Jerry Smith placed second with an 86.

            Patterniti lives in Ormond Beach, FL, Grant lives in Oviedo, FL, Robinson lives in Orlando, FL, Campbell lives in Brooksville, FL, and Smith lives in Spring Hill, FL, while Fletcher, Felty and Malloch live in The Villages, FL.

Fletcher Beats Par For Second Time; Libby, Felty, Lancaster Win

            Ocala, FL –  A brief rain shower cooled the temperature but it didn’t cool Ed Fletcher’s hot play as he shot his second sub-par round and won the “Championship Flight” with a one under par 71 at the Country Club of Ocala Wednesday, May 4, in Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida play.  He shot a 2-under 70 at Red Tail Golf Club earlier this year.

            And when the clouds cleared out and the sun shined brightly in beautiful blue skies, Truman Libby won the “A Flight” with an 81, followed by Jerry Felty’s 87 to win the “B Flight” and Mark Lancaster”s  85 to win the “C Flight.”

            Both Fletcher and Felty live in The Villages, FL, while Libby lives in Homosassa, FL, and Lancaster travels from

Glen St. Mary, FL.

            Dave Cox placed second in the “Championship Flight” with a 76 and also won the Closest-to-the-Pin on one of the par 3’s.  In the “A Flight”, Tom Grant placed second by shooting an 82,  and  Don  Ahlstrand came in third with an 83. 

            Placing second in the “C Flight” was Terry Campbell with a 91.  Additional Closest-to-the-Pin winners were Frank Olive and Dave Raybin.

Smith, Cox Record Great Shots in Sugarmill Woods Tournament

            Homosassa, FL –  Jerry Smith eagled the 320-yard par four fifth hole and Dave Cox rolled in three birdies, two back-to-back,  at the Sugarmill Woods Country Club in the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of  North Central Florida tournament, Monday, April 18. 

            “I hit a 147-yard 7 iron from the fairway,” Smith said. “And it went over a little hump in the green so I didn’t even get to see it go in the cup.”  He went on to also birdie the 135-yard par 3 fifteenth, for a final score of 76 to win the “B Flight.”

            Dave Cox represented the “Championship Flight” well when he rolled in the most birdies of the day with three. They included the 156-yard par 3 twelfth and back-to-back birdies on the 421-yard par 4 seventeenth and the 504-yard par 5 eighteenth.

            The “Championship Flight” winner was Ed Fletcher with a 75.  Second place went to Tom Gallagher with a 76, and Cox took third with a 78.         

            “I’m on a ’75 train’ and I can’t get off,” said Fletcher, mentioning that 75 has been his score for his last five rounds.  “I had an 18-inch down hill putt on the last hole to make 74 and break the string, but I missed it and wound up with another 75,” he added.

             Smith lives in Spring Hill, FL, and Fletcher, Gallagher and Cox live in The Villages, FL.

            The birdies kept coming also in the “A Flight” as Guy Laniel rolled in one and finished with a 79 to place first and Jay Kocher rolled in two birdies for a final score of 82 to place second.

            In the “C Flight” Terry Campbell shot an 86 to come in first, while John Tayman had an 89 and Roger LaGreca had a 91 to place second and third, respectively.

            Campbell is from Brooksville, FL, Tayman is from Deltona, FL, and LaGreca is from  Homosassa, FL.

Course, Score Card Playoffs Determine Winners at Golden Hills Event

Ocala, FL –  Wayne Morrison outlasted Larry Barousse in a sudden death playoff on the first hole of the Golden Hills Golf and Turf Club course Monday (April 4) to win the “A Flight” in the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida tournament.  Both were tied at 83 after 18 holes.  New member and first-time competitor Buddy Slay placed third with an 85, after a score card play-off with Guy Laniel..

            Morrison is from Macclenny, FL, Barousse is from Mt. Dora, FL, Slay lives in Lake City, FL, and Laniel is from The Villages, FL.

            All the players welcomed beautiful course conditions, the clear blue skies and warm temperatures after the last event was called off last week because of severe, threatening weather.

            It was an interesting rules day, as well.  Two competitors teed from the wrong tee, one player hit the wrong ball, and another lifted his ball and mark from the putting surface and then had to re-place it.  As competitive golfers always do, they took their penalty strokes in stride and continued play.

            Regular player from the Orlando, FL, tour Bill Foster won the “Championship Flight” with a 73, while North Central Florida member Ed Fletcher came in second with a 76.  New Tour member and first-time competitor Dave Cox placed third with a 79.

            Foster, Fletcher and Cox are all from The Villages, FL.

            Competing in only his second tournament, Dave Rabin won the “B Flight” with a 94 and John Hammack placed second with a 103.  Both Rabin and Hammack live in The Villages, FL.

            And, overcoming frustration in his previous competitions, George Danforth won the “C Flight” with a 94.  Placing second was John Tayman with a 95, and third was taken by Mike Malloch with a 97.  Danforth and Malloch live in The Villages, FL, while Tayman resides in Deltona, FL.       

            Closest-to-the-Pin for the “Championship” and “A” flights were awarded to Dave Gollobin from Orange Park, FL, and Tom Grant of Oviedo, FL.  The “B” and “C” Closest-to-the-Pin went to Malloch and Tayman.
