PGA Show in Orlando

I went to the PGA Show in Orlando yesterday.  It was very impressive. There doesn't look like any recession in the golf business.  Some overwhelming displays of investment to get exposure for their products by established companies and by new and growing companies.  I hope it carries over to all aspects of golf.

Interest is good

I spoke with the Orlando Sentinel and the Gainesville Sun, plus we had a write up in the Hernando edition of the Tampa Tribune. I also spoke with the Florida Golf Magazine and the Florida Golf Central Magazine.
We have several new members and many new inquiries about the Tour. All this is good.

Getting Interest and Members from Everywhere

We are finding a lot of interest in this Tour. To clarify some things, though, that seem to be out there.
We play USGA stroke play. It is individual competition in four flights, so all skill levels can compete.  We pay the first three places in each flight. There is a prize for closest to the pin. If you want, you can join in a skins game as well. The top ten points leaders in each flight are invited to the National Championship in Pinehurst. You only have to be 50+ years old to join and play. Also, check follow on twitter and be a facebook friend. The website has all the info and you can sign up and pay there. http://www.senioramateurgolftour.net/. First tournament is at Heathrow CC in Lake Mary Fl and is scheduled for Feb. 21.

Senior Amateur Tour Debuts for North Central Florida
The Villages, FL – The Senior Amateur Golf Tour is kicking off its first season in North Central Florida in early 2011, hosting a lineup of 16 tournaments including several at prestigious private courses.
The Tour is open to all skill levels of 50 years or older. Members are placed in one of four flights based on handicap: Championship Flight (0-3.9 handicap), A Flight (4-8.9), B Flight (9-13.9) and C Flight (14-18.9).
The private course tournament sites include Southern Woods Golf Club (Homosassa, FL), Golden Hills Golf and Turf Club (Ocala, FL), Sugarmill Woods Country Club (Homosassa, FL), Country Club of Ocala, and Gainesville Country Club.  The first tournament is Feb. 21, 2011, at Heathrow Country Club in Heathrow, FL.
Tournament format is gross stroke play, with USGA rules in effect. A software program tracks each player’s handicap to ensure participants are placed in their proper flight.  Once you begin playing on Tour, the integrity of each flight is kept and many players are moved up in flights during the season.  A Skins game is also available.
“Players are truly treated like pros,” says local Tour Director Jim Castello, “This Tour gives competitive golfers the opportunity to test their skills on some of the finest courses in the area with some of the area’s finest players.”
Tour President Dennis McCormac, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, heads-up the 12-year old Tour into13 markets in eight states across the country. The Tour peaks each November for the National Championship in Pinehurst, NC.  Those who finish as the top ten points leaders in their flight receive invitations to the Championship.
“A Tour member in North Central Florida can play in any Senior Amateur Tour event in any of our other Tour cities and their points accumulate in their home Tour,” said McCormac, emphasizing that this is a “huge benefit for those who travel.”
The other tournaments are scheduled for Red Tail Golf Club (Sorrento, FL), Timacuan Golf Club (Lake Mary, FL), both Pine  Barrens and Rolling Oaks at World Woods Golf Club (Brooksville, FL), El Diablo Golf and Country Club (Citrus Springs, FL), Victoria Hills Golf Club (DeLand, FL), DeBary Golf and Country Club (DeBary, FL),  El Campeon at Mission Inn Resort and Club (Howey-in-the-Hills, FL), Juliette Falls (Dunnellon, FL), and Eagle Dunes Golf Club (Sorrento, FL).
Tour membership fee is $85 and includes a tour gift pack, plus reduced rates on Tournament practice rounds. Entry fees are $60-$80 per event, and include cart, green fees, range balls and prizes. Golfers can check the Tour Manual, schedule, and sign up and pay by credit card at www.senioramateurgolftour.net.
